Packaging changes

APHA Mandated packaging change

What's happened?

Following a routine inspection from our regulator, Animal and Plant Health Agency, we have been told that the packaging we have been using for he last 2 years is no longer suitable.

We made the move to eco friendly, leak proof, deli boxes 2 years ago.  We did look at plastic chubs with metal clips, as this would have been an easy route, however we were always worried about the metal part ending up in your dogs dinner and the cross contamination risk of the meat hanging out of the end of the chubs.  We looked at endless paper and card options as we wanted to be fully sustainable but no options in this material would be satisfactory to meet the ABP regulations.

Unfortunately, APHA are no longer satisfied that these boxes meet the requirements of being leak proof to prevent cross contamination when defrosting.

We had to suspend operations for 10 days whilst we set up a new production line to produce into plastic trays with a heat sealed film lid that tick the box for the APHA and arrange for a re-inspection from APHA and the local Trading Standards authority.

We are now able to resume operations after satisfying their concerns.

What do I do with existing products in the old boxes?

It's completely fine to continue using products in the old packaging as you were already.  We will be sending out stock in both the old and new packaging for a couple of weeks.

All we do ask is that when defrosting the product, you transfer it to a sealed container, to avoid the product leaking onto other items in your fridge and causing cross contamination.

Is the new packaging eco friendly?

Yes!  The hard plastic tray is widely recyclable.  Please give it a good wash before you add it to the recycling bin!

The plastic film and the plastic pad is not recyclable in your home collection, however you can take it to most local recycling facilities which are located at most major supermarkets.   Visit the Recycle Now website for your nearest facility.

How much longer do I need to wait until I receive items I've already ordered?

Please check your emails for updates as we are notifying affected customers with an updated delivery date.
